Common Sense Films

idea by mkryan08

What is your idea and how will it increase Millennial civic engagement in your community?:

The best way to reach Millenial's is via the internet. Our idea capitalizes on this knowledge. We have been working on a youtube series called "Common Sense", named after Thomas Paine's Common Sense Pamphlet that circulated in support of the revolutionary war. Our goal is to create videos promoting civic engagement and encouraging the internet generation to take part in our governmental processes.

We have already created 3 such videos (one of which is the video you see here) that address various laws and social issues on both a national and state level. Our goal is to make entertaining and engaging videos that help deliver a base knowledge of the topics and encourage viewers to do further research and take action based on their opinions and beliefs.

Because these short videos are released on youtube they have access to a large number of youths. We have found that our videos are general embedded multiple times on blogs and facebooks allowing us to reach a very large audience.

How would your idea be implemented?:

We would begin working on four 1-3 minute long videos. Doing preliminary research and writing scripts on pertinent topics. The last video would be released just prior to the election would be about the importance of going out to vote.

We would then create the videos and post them on youtube and other social media sites attempting to generate as many views as possible in order to spread the word about these topics.

Where does your project take place?:

Our project takes place everywhere. Although we are based out of Wilmington, North Carolina because we would be posting this project to the internet people would be able to access it from all over the world.
